Word Up # 55: JOY

a couple of weeks ago i saw these amazing kids from Staten Island's P.S. 22 perform on a morning news show...it was spectacular and i sat there in tears, SO completely inspired (my littlest was too...& kept begging me "put the singers back on mommy!!!)...besides their gorgeous voices, i think its the absolute and unmistakable joy on their faces...they are just singing and loving every minute of it...their joy is visible, it radiates...like i could reach out and touch it...how cool is that???   i mean really...with true JOY like they have...they really CAN rule the world, don't you think? 

and i got to thinking...even though i'm not 11 years old and i can't carry a tune, how can i infuse that exact kind of joy into my every day? how can i truly be present IN my day and soak up the joy that is offered to me?  i think i often get sidetracked by those tiny annoyances and frustrations that inevitably pop up...that line from the indigo girls' "closer to fine" often comes to mind "darkness has a hunger that's insatiable...and lightness has a call that's hard to hear"...and i think that is SO true...if i give an inch to that negativity, it'll sink me...i've got to reach and search for the lightness...the joy...so i will :)

Oh, my heart - that video, Gigi. I'm just in total love... THANK YOU for sharing that. Their joy is unmistakable and totally contagious!
Ironically, I just finished a bible study with some dear friends. The topic? Joy! Finding it and living in it. It's a favorite subject of mine and it will be hard to funnel all my thoughts about it into one layout!
