So my technique involves getting a little messy and creative with you paints!
It revolves around my "Find" layout from last week.
In this layout, I used some more traditional art techniques to achieve several different looks for my layout.
First, I will cover my photographs.
As you can tell, they aren't your typical "glossy or matte" photograph. They are actually printed on Bazzill Bling cardstock. Miss Courtney Delaura opened my eyes to this technique in a class I took of hers and I just keep repeating it because of the texture it gives your photograph. Take a look. The only thing with using the Bling version is that it takes some time to dry so be aware of that. If you can't wait to let it sit for a bit, just use regular bazzill.
Next, I want to share something that I have just been using over and over and I can't get enough of it! It's woodgrain contact paper! I must find some in other colors!!
You should be able to find it in your local hardware store. I just cut mine a bit smaller than 12x12 for my layout and rounded the corners with a standard corner rounder punch and laid it down.
Next, get out your paints.
The next technique I used on my layout was creating a frame to bring the focus on my main large photo. I just dabbed a little bit of paint on my foam brush and started with small strokes and created a personalized frame.
You can get as crazy as you'd like. Paint a thick frame, a straight frame, a multicolored frame... whatever inspires you!
The next painting technique I did on my layout is masking. I chose my sticker letters and title and laid them down. I added a little bit of pressure so the letters didn't come up when I painted them, but not too much so that they won't come off easily.
I painted over the letters with just basic white acrylic paint and lifted off the stickers with a poker tool once they paint dried.
Again, you can get as creative as you want with this.. adding multi-layers of paint and even glitter once the paint is still wet or trace the outline of the words like I did later.
Next, I had these adorable taglets from Shabby Chic that I knew I wanted to use. I love altering taglets! Either by cutting out the image, cutting it in 1/2, using it as a frame or whatever I am needing in my layout. For this layout, I wanted to use it for journaling but these were all image ones. So I cut out the center of one of the taglets and placed it over the back of another one of the taglets and created my own lines for journaling in the center.
And here is the finished layout with all the completed techniques...
Some pretty simple techniques that can add some fun textures to your layout!
SOme brilliant ideas there Amber, thanks for that!! I spotted the title you did on your OLW and thought that was a cool idea but I also love the way you did the frame.
I've use bazzil before for printing on (for the texture) but never tried the blong on, must have a go at that !!!

Masking random left over letters is a good way to use up alphabets that are missing letters you need too-you can combine different fonts, but because they are masked, they are "uniform"...
I love printing on regular cardstock too... for the pictures here:

I copied them onto cardstock, because some were Polaroids, and some where "regular" prints. This made them uniform looking, and the texture added to the "vintage" look.
TFS!
Great tips! I have had a LOT of use from these techniques in the past!
