i am getting more and more into the handmade stuff...i love the personal touch it adds....i love the simplicity and rustic feel of homemade things. i love that it lends an air of nostalgia or reminds one of a time past. one of my favourite things to do right now is handmade fabric flowers...i have a zillion...yes, i swear to you, a zillion...uses for these flowers that i think are adorable!!! i have been asked quite a lot lately how to make them...so....here is this week tip/technique...hope you enjoy!!!
What you will need:
Fabric (1, 2 or 3 different fabrics, depending on preference)
Scissors
Needle and thread
Button
Glue Dots (optional)
Start by cutting out three circles in graduating sizes. I handcut my fabric for a natural and imperfect look, but you can use your circle
templates, quilting gear or a cookie cutter if you prefer perfect!
Using your fingertips, pull at the edges of the fabric circles to fray the edges.
Layer the circles together, with the largest circle on the bottom.
Using the end of a paint brush (or pencil), place the brush end in the
centre of the flower and gather the fabric up around the brush,
creating a point on the backside of the flower.
Holding the point of the flower, remove the paintbrush.
To keep the flower centre together, and to create ruffled petals,
stitch together the point you are holding, using your need and thread,
or embroidery floss.
Using your fingers, spread out the ruffles of the flower.
Attach a button to the flower centre, using stitching or a Glue Dot.
and voila!! done!! attach to your current project!!! such fun flowers to make and i love the look and feel they add to my LO's and other creative projects...they look super cute as an embellishment on little girls shoes, cute little bags, t-shirts, hair accessory....dude!! the possibilities are endless...so get creative and have fun!!!
I love it!!! How cool and I abso love that fabric you used.
I will so have to try it!
Thanks!
