OLW: Word Up #33: FAITH

i love this song...LOVE it...tears well up in my eyes & chills down my spine when i hear it...and as i was listening to & singing it at the top of my lungs as i was driving one day, i started really thinking...what does FAITH mean to me?...what do i have FAITH in? why is it sometimes so difficult? and then other times it is the easiest thing in the world?

although many of us may associate FAITH with religion, it is a lot more...one of the definitions of FAITH is that you "have firm belief in something for which there is no proof"...FAITH requires you jump without fully knowing what lies below...it can be scary...it can be disarming...

but, despite that fact and the reality that many times our faith is held together by the thinnest of threads, we still have it in something or someone, that "idea or belief" that lies deepest in our hearts...we take that deep breath & jump....& lots of times that jump, that leap of FAITH has to come just when "our backs are against the wall" like in the song...we've got nothing tangible to hold onto, but we cling & trust and maintain our FAITH....we move forward without having a sure fire way to know that it will all be O.K. in the end...guess that is why FAITH can be interchangeable for the terms trust & hope...maybe that is why in addition to being frightening, FAITH can also be very freeing...FAITH can also instill you with a peace of heart, a calm of mind...

i've been witness to FAITH, up close & personal, many times...FAITH in my family...FAITH in my husband...FAITH in my friends...FAITH in my kids...FAITH in my Country...FAITH in myself....

& i'm sure you have as well...
